Museum Flehite becomes Museum Amersfoort

9 July 2026 ·
Museum Flehite is now called Museum Amersfoort. We want to connect better with today’s visitors and show more clearly what we stand for: stories from Amersfoort that connect with the world of today.

From 17 July, we will be opening our doors under a new name: Museum Amersfoort. This marks the start of a new chapter. Not only with a new name, but also with a new permanent exhibition, a refurbished entrance area and a museum where the stories of Amersfoort take centre stage.

A new name, the same love for the city

The name Museum Amersfoort makes it immediately clear what the museum is all about: the city and its stories. As Amersfoort’s leading museum, we bring together art, heritage and personal stories. This way, you not only discover the past, but also see today’s city through fresh eyes.

Discover Amorfortia – a city full of stories

From 17 July, our new permanent exhibition, ‘Amorfortia – a city full of stories’, will be on display. You’ll journey through Amersfoort’s history and meet the people who have shaped the city – from pilgrims and craftsmen to artists, innovators, newcomers and today’s residents.

You’ll discover remarkable objects from the collection, such as Napoleon’s keys, a centuries-old city chest and paintings by artists including Alida Withoos. The exhibition also gives a voice to stories that have long been overlooked, such as those of female beer brewers, the city’s colonial past and Caribbean residents of Amersfoort who played a key role in the history of the Quick baseball club.

The exhibition shows that history is not set in stone. Stories from the past help you to look at life today – and at the city in which we live together – in a different light.

A place to discover and meet

Museum Amersfoort remains housed in the three late-medieval walled houses on the Westsingel, right in the heart of the historic city centre. The entrance area, the museum café and the terrace have also been refurbished.

The museum café is a welcoming meeting place for everyone. Pull up a chair for a coffee, tea or a treat, or feel free to bring your own lunch and enjoy the view of the Koppelpoort.

We look forward to seeing you from 17 July

From Friday 17 July, you’re very welcome at Museum Amersfoort. Come and discover the new permanent exhibition, be surprised by the city’s stories and experience Amersfoort from a new perspective.
